Learn English Homestay with Sarah in the beautiful countryside of Shropshire in the Heart Of England

Homelingua has today welcomed a new teacher who lives in the beautiful county of England called Shropshire. Sarah lives in a lovely home with her husband and young son. They are surrounded by beautiful countryside, but also within easy reach of the cities of Chester, Manchester and Liverpool. Sarah is a school teacher of English during the term time, but will welcome students to lear English and live in her home during the summer holidays.

I have been an English Teacher for 10 years and specialise in ages 11 to 18 years. I work locally at a successful secondary school in the position of Assistant Head of English. In addition to my day-to-day teaching, I tutor children of all ages at home on a one-to-one basis. I love teaching both young and older children, very much enjoying their company, enthusiasm and sense of humour. My approach to teaching is fun and interactive; my lessons make frequent use of ICT, kinaesthetic techniques as well as more conventional, teacher-led approaches. I believe myself to be a caring and interested teacher who is dedicated to students fulfilling their potential. I am qualified to Masters level in English Language and Linguistics; elements of my course contained study of bilingualism, educational linguistics, syntax and semantics.

My family is very special to me; we have a young son who is nearly 4 years old. We all enjoy living in the countryside, going for adventures in our nearby woods and fields. We would love to have a foreign student stay with us to enrich our experience and enable us to learn a little about other cultures and traditions. We would certainly dedicate our time to giving any student the perfect English experience. We have enjoyed travelling in the past and before we had our son, we had extended stays in Australia, Thailand, France, Canada and the US. We spent much of our time in these countries travelling round and exploring either using a hire car or public transport.

Our lifestyle very much revolves around our new home in the countryside. We enjoy farmers’ markets, growing our own vegetables and exploring local wildlife. We also love the nearby cities of Liverpool, Manchester and the very historic and picturesque, Chester. We are lucky to live very centrally and many areas of interest are within a 2 hour drive. We have many friends and family close by who would provide our student with good company, conversation and a look into how English people live. We envisage trips out to see family and would welcome any new, albeit temporary, addition to our family.

We live a small village called Burleydam, which is on the Cheshire/Shropshire border. Idyllic countryside views can be seen from our windows, farms and pretty villages line the landscape with the beautiful Tudor market towns of Nantwich and Whitchurch close by. We live opposite Combermere Abbey, an historic stately home with impressive grounds and traditional events such as fairs and nature walks. Our house is a converted barn with large oak beams and a traditional exterior. We live in a secluded and gated courtyard where bats, hares and owls are often seen. Our son particularly enjoys the wildlife and often stays up late to bat-watch!

Although we live in a small village, the cities of Liverpool and Manchester are only a one hour drive away. Both provide extensive cultural experiences, e.g. The Beatles Museum, Albert Docks, Old Trafford, shops, theatres and universities. Chester is much nearer and is an historic city with impressive buildings, ghost walks, magnificent castle walls and a lovely river to walk or sail along. Birmingham is also accessible, as is the Peak District and more hectic attractions such as Alton Towers, a large theme park. We really do live in the centre of interesting and varied places to visit.
